This year the luncheon ‘conversations with…’ was held at Tony’s; we had the pleasure of hearing from two very inspirational people, Laura Fowler and Dr. Stuart C. Yudofsky.
Laura found the Women’s Home after she realized she had two chances at life. One was to stay in the hospital or two join the Women’s Home. At a young age she lost her mother and father to alcoholism. After being adopted by her grandmother she too turned to alcohol. Laura states, “It was like finding a new best friend”. After hitting rock bottom Laura decided she needed change.
Next was, Dr. Stuart C. Yudofsky who is the chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Houston Methodist Hospital and chairman of the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences of Baylor College of Medicine. Yudofsky spoke about how he was raised feeling not worthy. Being left-handed created problems for him when it came to reading letters and numbers. Rather than letting that bring him down, he turned things around. Now he is a highly successful individual whose patients include well known athletes and celebrities.
The best part about the conservation series luncheon is hearing the stories of those who have overcome adversity.
